Thy Kingdom Come
THY KINGDOM COME
We are living in an age when everyone
is looking for answers to life’s bugging questions. We are living in a world
that has failed to give solutions to its problems. The reality is that the
world is in trouble, from global warming, economic meltdown, recession, wars,
nuclear holocaust, poverty, health epidemics, and hunger. It seems that from
the time of modernity when the West declared autonomy from God it was an open
gate for disaster. The West declared science as its God; technological
advancement had replaced the need for religion. In postmodernity after the
failure of modernity the world desired to redefine itself. This led to a
heteronomous society one that once failed and continues to fail without God. The
West indeed saw the failure of religion throughout history and thought that the
solution was to do away with God. The West did not realize that God is not
religion and religion is not God. In fact when Jesus came to the world one of
the things he fought the most was religion.
Religion is a system that has
misrepresented God to the world. Religion is a meticulous amalgamation of
complex doctrines, ideologies, beliefs, cultural systems and worldviews that
eventually shape human’s behavior. Religion is antithetical and
contradistinctive to the kingdom of God. Religion is a system of suppression,
oppression and bondage. Jesus often warned his disciples of the yeast of the
Pharisees and Sadducees. Jesus was referring to religion as the yeast of the
Pharisees. Jesus did not come to earth to impose a religion on humanity no (Nein)!
Jesus came to earth to superimpose the kingdom of heaven. Jesus was not a
religious leader rather he was the King with a kingdom, servants and an army.
Jesus was not preaching any other message beside the message of the kingdom of
heaven. He even taught his disciple to pray like wise “….Let thy kingdom come
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Throughout history religion has
never provided answers to world’s problems. From the Pentateuch to the Torah
the law has failed to save humanity. The prophets of the Old Testament and the
law could not redeem mankind. It was only King Jesus Christ with his message of
the kingdom of God that was able and still able to save mankind.
When Jesus Christ was born behold the
world had just received the King. The wise men from the east came looking for
Jesus the King.Matthew 2:1-2 states that “ Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem
of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the
east to Jerusalem, Saying Where is he that is born King of Jews? For we have
seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.” It is interesting to
note that you do not vote a king in the kingdom. A king is born a king. Only in
a democracy do you vote a president. A kingdom does not function with
democracy. The kingdom of heaven is a theocracy. Jesus Christ is the King of
the universe and was born a king. When Jesus began his great ministry he was
only preaching the gospel of the kingdom. Matthew 4:17 assert that, “ From that
time Jesus began to preach, and saying Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at
hand.” As Jesus went about preaching this glorious message of the kingdom he
healed all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
The message of the kingdom is alive and
active and provokes the weakness and deadness of religion. Religion kept people
in darkness and when Jesus stepped on the scene the religious system began to
panic because it was exposed. Religion is death yet the message of the kingdom
is life.
